Polycarbonate CNC Machining

Polycarbonate CNC Machining Services for Precision and Durability

Polycarbonate CNC Machining

Polycarbonate CNC  Machining is a precision manufacturing process used to produce high-accuracy parts from engineering-grade polycarbonate.

Using CNC milling and CNC routing, CNC turning polycarbonate components are machined to tight tolerances with excellent dimensional stability and surface finish.

This process supports complex geometries and custom designs, making it ideal for applications requiring strength, durability, and reliable performance.

Why CNC Machining Is Perfect for Polycarbonate

Superior Material Properties

  • High Impact Resistance – Provides exceptional durability for machined parts used in demanding and high-stress applications.
  • High Heat Deflection Temperature – Maintains dimensional stability and performance under elevated temperatures during use.
  • Low Moisture Absorption – Ensures consistent mechanical properties in varying environmental conditions.
  • Scratch Resistance-Enhances hard surface coating for the products and extends the service life of machined components.
  • Lightweight Strength

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Excelite offers CNC machining services without minimum quantity requirements, catering to prototypes and short to medium-run production needs. Our precision machining capabilities enable us to deliver high-quality products with flexibility and efficiency, ensuring that your specific requirements are met, whether for prototyping or production purposes.

For the 3D drawing, we would prefer STEP, IGES, or X_T format. For the 2D drawing, we would prefer PDF format there are tolerances with the dimensions if possible.

General Machining Tolerances on plastics and composites will be +/- 0.010”(+/- 0.254 mm).

Lead times are 2 to 3 weeks for prototypes and 4 weeks for production runs.
Some special urgent orders can be discussed beforehand.

polycarbonate is the strongest plastic for CNC. But it is easy to machine with a CNC.

Polyethylene (PE) is the cheapest plastic for CNC machining. Known for its affordability and excellent machining properties, PE is used widely in a variety of applications, including wear strips, gears, and consumer goods.

Absolutely. Excelite uses advanced CNC machining, which allows for high precision and complex designs. Our experienced team can turn your design into a finely crafted finished product.

  • Maintain uniform wall thickness where possible to avoid warping or internal stress.
  • Include adequate radii on corners rather than sharp internal corners to reduce stress concentrations.
  • Consider draft angles for molded/formed features if applicable, but for machined parts ensure tool access and appropriate clearance.
  • Account for thermal expansion, as the material will expand under machining temperatures.

PC is tougher and more impact resistant; less likely to chip.

PC can tolerate more aggressive toolpath/feeds because of higher thermal resistance.

Acrylic often has slightly better optical clarity in some grades, but is more brittle and more prone to chipping or cracking when machined.
